BIG NEWS FOR THE CRUSO COMMUNITY!

Cruso Fire & Rescue is proud to announce that effective October 1, 2026, our department has officially received an ISO Class 5 Fire Protection Rating!
This achievement represents countless hours of hard work, training, planning, equipment improvements, and dedication by our firefighters, officers, board members, and the many community partners who have supported our department.
The North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal presented our new rating during a ceremony on July 13, 2026, recognizing the commitment of Cruso Fire & Rescue to providing the highest level of fire protection possible for our community.
A Class 5 rating is an important milestone that reflects improvements in fire suppression capabilities, communications, training, water supply, and overall department operations. Most importantly, this new rating may help many homeowners and businesses qualify for lower property insurance premiums beginning October 1, 2026. Since every insurance company uses ISO ratings differently, we encourage everyone to contact their insurance provider after the effective date to see how this change may impact their policy.
This accomplishment would not have been possible without: 🔥 Our dedicated firefighters and first responders 🔥 Our Board of Directors 🔥 The North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal 🔥 Haywood County Fire Marshal 🔥 Our mutual aid departments 🔥 And the incredible support of the Cruso community.
Thank you for believing in and supporting Cruso Fire & Rescue. We remain committed to serving our community with professionalism, dedication, and pride.
Congratulations to every member of Cruso Fire & Rescue on this outstanding achievement!

Statement from the Chief

Chief Tim Henson
The residents of the Cruso Community should be proud of the group of men and women that are protecting them. We are without a doubt one of the fasting growing and most progressive fire departments in Haywood County. I am humbled and proud to serve as the Chief of the Cruso Fire and Rescue Department, for which I have personally been a member for more than 20 years and a lifelong resident of the Cruso Community. It is my goal in the near future to reduce the insurance rating of the insurance premiums of our residents. I will continue to keep the department progressing and moving forward with the help of the fine men and women whom I am proud to serve with at the Cruso Fire and Rescue Department.
